What Is RAW CBD and CBDa
CBDa is cannabidiolic acid and it is what a living hemp plant contains. Cannabinoids all begin as acids, assembled by the plant with a carboxyl group attached. Heat drives that group off as carbon dioxide and leaves the neutral form behind, so CBDa becomes CBD and THCa becomes THC. The reaction is decarboxylation, and it is so ordinary that most of this market never mentions the acid forms exist.
A RAW product is one where the reaction was never allowed. The extract leaves the CO2 vessel and goes into a bottle, a capsule or a syringe without an intervening step. What arrives is a mixture rather than one form or the other, because a little conversion happens slowly at room temperature regardless of anyone’s intentions, which is why a certificate reports two figures instead of one total.
Whether CBDa behaves any differently in a person is an open question and it deserves being left open. There is laboratory work suggesting the two are not interchangeable and there is not yet the human evidence that would let anybody explain what follows from that. We make RAW products because they are closer to the plant as it grew and because customers want them. Anyone offering a firmer reason is going past what has been shown.
