Complex.com published a video of Nate Diaz using a CBD oil vape at the UFC 202 Post-Match Press Conference.
Nate Diaz ultimate fighter is not hiding his use of a CBD oil vape
Nate Diaz and his brother Nick have no qualms about using cannabis in a vape publicly.
Nick was suspended in 2015 after he tested positive for marijuana prior to the UFC 183. It is alleged he invited an agent to smoke some weed with him after they had an argument earlier that week.
In an interview with Nate after he lost a match against Connor McGregor, he explained to the media that, in his opinion, he won the fight even if McGregor’s score was higher, and got him the majority decision. He was not upset; it seemed as if his mind was not on the fight, but on the tokes he was taking from a vape of CBD oil. He says the non-psychoactive form of cannabis helps him heal after fighting.

Cannabis helps him heal
Nate Diaz says he uses the vape prior to, and after fighting because it makes his life easier. He understands the UFC drug policy that fighters can’t test positive before, or just after a fight, but if the drug tests are completed, and he passed as clean, he can use as much CBD oil as he wants to. Naturally, CBD wouldn’t register on a drug test, since test would only register THC.
Also known as Mixed Martial Arts, the UFC is the premier organization, and enforces unified rules. These fighters are prone to head injuries by the nature of the sport.
Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants
The Government Of The United States of America, represented by the Secretary, Department of Health and Human Services patented Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants in 1999.
The patent states cannabinoids is a useful prophylaxis and treatment for a wide variety of oxidation-associated diseases such as; ischemic, inflammatory or autoimmune diseases, and that cannabinoids have a specific application as a neuroprotectant in limiting neurological damage after ischemic insults, (blood supply restriction) caused by trauma or strokes, or in the case of neurodegenerative diseases.
Non-psychoactive cannabinoids such as cannabidoil are particularly beneficial to use as they avoid toxicity says the article.
Nate and Nick Diaz are not stupid after all
With these facts in mind, it is clear that the Diaz brothers are not stupid or irresponsible when using CBD vapes before and after their fights, as evidence shows they are just taking precautions, and they are looking out for their own wellbeing since the risk of injury to the brain is very high in UFC fighting. Can they be blamed for using CBD oil as a neuroprotectant if the government patented it for the exact same use?
Who is being ignorant here, the media or Diaz?
Nate lost his mammoth rematch against McGregor at UFC 202, and he might not be fighting for some time, as he could also be suspended for his cannabis use. MMA Fighting might consider Diaz’s admission to using cannabis equal to testing positive. As the event took place in Las Vegas, the Nevada State Athletic Commission could also rule against him.
The USADA is looking into the matter and announced that they are gathering information to be able to take an appropriate next step.
CBD oil as a neuroprotectant
There is no doubt that CBD oil as a neuroprotectant is a wise choice for any athlete receiving multiple head injuries through partaking in sports prone to concussion, or other head injuries. It is non-psychoactive, and does not cause euphoria.
