Will Anderson knows about pain and living with it. The well-known comedian suffers from osteoarthritis, and has spoken out about his daily marijuana use of cannabis for osteoarthritis pain on many occasions.
Will told News.com, and other media networks that medical marijuana is the only thing that helps him cope with his crippling condition on a day-to-day basis so that he can get on with his life.
Legal marijuana saves lives
Anderson says legalizing medical marijuana would save lives since the number of deaths caused by opioid addiction is rising. In states where medical marijuana is allowed, opioid deaths have decreased by more than 30%.
Will has also described his experience with “hardcore” prescription painkillers as having very serious and negative side effects. He points out that in that in 2015, statistics showed that the number of people treated for dependence on oxycodone and codeine tripled compared to nine years previously.
Humanity is in pain
The figures gathered by the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre at UNSW was unforeseen. They pointed towards a need for drastic changes in the way painkillers are prescribed. In Australia 3 million people suffer from chronic pain. They all get prescribed open opioids.
Anderson says cannabis can save lives. In some states in Australia, trials are being conducted on the effects of cannabis oil for some ailments, but these programs are strictly regulated and only in their infancy.
Wait for surgery
Anderson spends part of the year in the US and the rest in Australia, and has a very busy schedule as a stand-up comedian, touring across the country. Some days he can’t get up and can’t even move, because of his condition. His doctor advised him to delay surgery until technology has improved the chance of success on hip replacements.
Will says that in the last seven years he has no recollection of a single moment without any pain. He loves performing and says he can’t slow down his frenetic work habits. He loves seeing people in front of him enjoying the show.
Anti-inflammatory effects of cannabis for osteoarthritis
Research on the effect of cannabinoids on osteoarthritis is fairly limited, but studies have shown that the potent anti -inflammatory effects of cannabinoids relieve pain. These preclinical studies postulate that the endocannabinoid system is directly involved in alleviating pain caused by osteoarthritis. CBD may effectively block the progress of arthritis. Furthermore, it could protect the joints against damage. One study concluded that CBD offers a potent anti-arthritic effect. (Malfait, et al., 2000).
Cannabis also helps maintain healthy bone structure, which in turn prevents osteoarthritis. By activating the receptors CB1 and CB2, cannabinoids manage healthy bone formation by restraining bone resorption and enhance the formation of bone. (Bab & Zimmer, 2008)
Restore the balance
The healing properties of the cannabis plant never cease to amaze, because it restores the natural balance in the body and it restores health. We hope that all these preliminary studies can now result in clinical trials. This will include findings on cannabis for osteoarthritis and how it can bring real relief to patients.
