Alistair reached out to us with his own experiences using CBD, describing the ways in which it has encouraged a wholesome and happy way of life for him and his young family.
Well, he says, when it comes to using alternative medicines, “I have always been fascinated with healing plants and food as medicine, especially so with cannabis as it offers a “Master Key” to health.”
Yet, it wasn’t until Alistair decided to stop self-medicating for his social anxiety that he began looking for other options to improve his mental health.
He pursued research into cannabis, driven by a need to find something healthful, “without having to get high,” he says. What he found was a far deeper understanding of the way our bodies work, and a simple way to support his family’s health.
“After learning how CBD promotes homeostasis at a cellular level and how the immune system is bridged by the endocannabinoid system, it came naturally to want to protect my children from sickness and afford them the best start at maintaining their overall health.”
While we often hear of parents buying CBD to help treat their children for seizures and for other health conditions that impact their children’s lives daily, this wasn’t the case for Alistair and his young family. He was luckier than many others.
“We are blessed in that our children don’t have any major medical issues… we are taking a more preventative supplement approach.”
The best part, however, could be said to be the ease in which CBD has fit into his family’s day-to-day life.
Alistair gives his two children 3 drops of the 3% drops morning and evening and uses “the salve for any scrapes and cuts the kids get, and the body butter for any bumps to the head as well as general moisturizing.”
And of course, because of his experiences using CBD with his family, Alistair brought ‘the CBD conversation’ up to his mother.
While many find this kind of conversation difficult, Alistair plunged in. No headway was made, however, until his mother saw what CBD could do with her own eyes.
“I was using some of the 3% on a small growth that I discovered on my head after I shaved my hair off. It disappeared after about 10 days worth of applying the oil which I think kinda blew her mind as she was a bit worried and trying to get me to go see a doctor about it.”
After this, Alistair says his mother was “pretty much sold on the benefits,” her mindset changed.

“They say ‘proof is in the pudding’ and I’ve definitely given her plenty of pudding to chew on.”
Now that Alistair and his family have been using CBD for some time, he says
“I think calming anxieties is the biggest area it has helped us as a family. Things can often get a bit stressful when children are being children. It helps us as parents to approach things more calmly instead of allowing stress to make us go pop. The teething thing is also a monumental area it has helped with.”
Because he is using CBD as a supplement for his wife and kids, Alistair says “we are just generally dosing to supplement.” So rather than dosing for something, in particular, Allistair takes his CBD like you would a daily vitamin supplement.
However, this doesn’t mean the family’s CBD dose is set in stone. As our bodies change, so do their needs, especially in times of growth and stress.
“We may up the kids' dose by a drop or two if there is a specific incident (teething, head bump, etc). For myself, using it for social anxiety and depression, it didn’t take me long at all. I started with the 3% so that I could fine tune my dosage but then found it was just easier for me to take 3 drops of 15% than 15 drops of 3% to achieve the desired dose,” Alistair says.
While dosing low and going slow, Alistair was able to find his ‘CBD sweet spot’ easily enough. However, depending on your body and what it needs, you may find your perfect dose rests elsewhere.

“In my opinion, there is nothing better you could do for your children’s wellbeing, than by stimulating the endocannabinoid system through supplementing.”
