A family leaves Florida for Colorado to find cannabis oil for epilepsy for their daughter suffering from grand mal seizures. Abby’s parents had to leave Florida for cannabis oil to treat her seizures
Mom and dad take their child’s life in their own hands as they leave home in search of cannabis oil for epilepsy
CNN reports on a mom and dad, Kim and Rich Muszynski who had to leave the state of Florida to obtain cannabis with a touch of THC for seizures for their 5-year-old daughter, Abby.
Most children suffering uncontrollable seizures have been given all available pharmaceutical treatments. In Abby’s case, she tried eight different meds by age three, and none could control the grand mal seizures she suffered.

Doctor recommends medical marijuana
The cannabis option developed for children suffering seizures from different kinds of severe epilepsy is called Charlotte’s Web. This was the first medical marijuana treatment Dr. Ngoc Minh Le from Orlando prescribed to Abby when her family first brought her to him. He specializes in epileptology and neurology in children.
The Muszynskis decided Dr. Le was their last hope after Abby suffered such severe seizures that it became very frightening to watch. She stares into the distance with huge pupils, then start shaking violently and eventually fights for air.
Higher THC content best hope
Charlotte’s Web brought Abby some relief, but she still had around two severe seizures lasting up to 10 min on a weekly basis. This was when Dr. Le explained that medicinal cannabis higher in THC would be Abby’s best bet. Higher-THC strains were not legally available to Abby in Florida at that stage, and her family would have to leave the state and move to another where it was legal. This meant leaving all their friends, family and even Abby’s older siblings behind.
Colorado was the best option, as parents of children with similar disabilities confirmed to Kim they were happy with the state’s Medicaid program. But traveling long hours by car or plane was dangerous, and not advised by Abby’s doctors. She would have to use an air ambulance.
The move was most traumatic. Kim and Abby ended up homeless for three days because Medicaid Florida didn’t deliver. They had to stay with friends where they had to sleep on the floor because Abby’s special needs bed and equipment were already packed and moved.
It was all worth it!
All the suffering was worth it. The higher-THC oil almost instantly eliminated Abby’s severe seizures. She had one seizure a week barely lasting seconds. Using a few drops of CBD and THC oil under the tongue eradicated the seizures immediately. Abby has not been hospitalized for seizures since they moved to Colorado.
“It’s the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen,” said Kim.
Above all else, Colorado Medicaid paid all prescriptions and doctors’ fees without asking any questions, a huge difference to Florida’s Medicaid.
Higher THC for seizures
Higher THC for seizures has left Abby basically seizure free and she is making progress. She can hold a spoon, pick things up and move them. These are insignificant things, but for Abby it is huge. Her personality is also developing, and she often smiles or giggles.
Her mom and dad even wonders if perhaps she will be able to express her wants and needs one day, and who knows? Perhaps she will walk with a walker if she is assisted. Cannabis and seizures is currently undergoing extensive research, with CBD getting most of the attention, but sometimes, it seems a touch of THC with CBD is all that’s needed.
