For years CJ hadn’t been treating himself correctly. Like many of us, CJ gave very little regard for the choices he was making for himself. He succinctly puts it down to “poor eating habits [and] little to no exercise.” He just wasn’t fueling his body with the right food and nutrients or ensuring that he included activities that allowed for a healthy and active lifestyle. He had started a family and worked every day to make sure he could provide for them monetarily, but his health had always come as an afterthought.
However, this all changed 3 years ago, when he became fed up with his inability to be truly involved in his growing family. His decision came down to one simple fact he said, “I have a young family and I wouldn’t have been around much longer to watch them grow if I were to continue living so unhealthily.”
Knowing what he had to do and acting on his newfound motivation to shift his health, he began going to the gym while also taking care of selecting the right foods to eat in order to rectify the accumulation of damage he had sustained—from the inside out. “It wasn’t long ago I was pushing over 350lbs.”
But, years of ill health had taken its toll on his body, and soon enough he found going to the gym an increasingly excruciating experience. He hadn’t factored in the joints of his knees which could no longer take the years of excess weight on top of the new gym regimen he had begun. He realised that he would need to rethink his approach if he wanted to continue on his journey to health. So he was forced to reconsider his options.
His initial response was to take over the counter painkillers like Tylenol and Ibuprofen, which for a first effort worked incredibly well to alleviate his pain. So much so that he became excessive in his use of them.
“I was popping every type of over the counter pain reliever you could think of as if they were skittles… I popped them like candy.”
“My liver was begging for mercy,” CJ remembers of his increasingly worrying pill habit. He began researching ways in which he could continue exercising while avoiding pharmaceutical drugs and managing his pain in a natural way that his body could benefit from.
But there was also something else. Something on the periphery that CJ had denied for quite some time, which only now demanded his focused attention. It could no longer be ignored. CJ’s journey to health would not be singularly physical, but mental as well. He realised he was struggling with a deep depression, which was affecting him in more ways than one. It was taking its toll on him and resulted in him being substantially stressed out, emotionally unavailable to his friends and family, and unable to attain a healthy sleep cycle.
He had heard about CBD but it wasn’t until after his younger brother approached him about his worrying state that CJ finally took the plunge and ordered his first bottle.
He was completely floored. He hadn’t expected just how efficacious it would be. Not just for his pain, but for his stress, anxiety, insomnia and depression as well.
I was having a serious bout with insomnia. I am guessing that the stress, anxiety and depression were all to blame for my not being able to sleep… After trying the CBD I noticed that I was calm. I wasn’t so anxious and I was able to calm my emotions and calm my thoughts. I wasn’t high. I was just calm. I slept really well after that… The CBD helps me relax, calm down and think things through instead of panicking or acting out in anger because of the depression.
So, the cannabis plant—a natural though perhaps still somewhat taboo plant—and more specifically the compound CBD had shown him a more natural way to curb his pain as well as his mounting mental health imbalances. He recounts, “My life changed forever… I sleep better, manage stress better and my brain function seems to improve day by day.”
“It was a noticeable relief to the pain I would normally feel in my joints and especially my knees. I’m pretty much pain-free in my knees today. And that is saying something at 41 and still a big guy at 265 [lbs].”
For a year and a half now, CJ has only been using CBD to combat pain, stress and general wellbeing. He explains, “The stress, anxiety and depression that can come with being morbidly obese is real. I lived through it and CBD did not only helped me physically along the way but mentally as well. It truly is a life changing product.”
