When 31-year-old Valdas thinks about it now, he believes he can pinpoint the moment, around three or four years ago, that would change his life forever. Like many of us slugging through the monotonous routine of daily life, Valdas noticed he was slowly becoming more and more fatigued. An overt exhaustion that he believed was just a standard part of daily life. Everyone complains about being tired, so why should he give it any serious thought?
It was about a year and a half later at around age 29, during his honeymoon in Spain, that he realised his persistent exhaustion wasn’t the only thing threatening his health. Valdas’ eyesight grew weaker, and he began experiencing doubled and blurred vision. Taking himself to the doctor shortly after, Valdas received the news no one wants or expects to hear in someone so young. He was diagnosed with a brain tumour that was, being so close to the central nervous system, deemed inoperable.
“Even knowing that, a complicated surgery was made in order to know the tumour type,” he gravely recounts.
This shocking diagnosis would not only shatter Valdas’ life, but the lives also of his young wife and his 9 month old daughter, who had only just begun on their journeys together. But Valdas, like many people faced with this devastating diagnosis, saw this as a blunt and severe reminder to really live, and to make his life as meaningful as possible. So, within four days, Valdas was given the drug Dexametasona to ease brain swelling before going into surgery that would see his skull opened to create room in the brain and ease the pressure the tumor was creating.
Immediately after his operation, Valdas was put on one of the heaviest cancer treatment regimens possible, using radiation in conjunction with a vigorous chemotherapy schedule. He was administered the chemotherapy drug Temozolomide five times per month, equating to a total of 30 session during a six month period. Throughout this time, Valdas not only lost his vigour and physical wellbeing, but his mental health deteriorated at the same rate. He explains that he felt, both within his body and his mind, that he would have rated his wellbeing as a two on a scale of 1–10 and that if it weren’t for the support of his wife, family and friends, he would not have been able to keep up his optimistic outlook during his treatment.
Well, if you saw Valdas today, you wouldn’t believe him to have suffered from this illness. Valdas uses the 20% Raw Hemp Oil extract two to three times a day as well as one CBD Suppository for sleep, and he has found that using this consistently has really helped boost his physical and mental wellbeing. Just after six months of using Endoca’s CBD products, he was able to start working again. And not only that, but he says he was also feeling strong enough to go on a snowboarding trip, which he explains even his doctors are in disbelief over.
“Last week, I had a magnetic resonance scan. Results are very good. Doctors are amazed [and] asking what I’m using.”
And Valdas is not afraid to tell them, even though the laws pertaining to the use of cannabis products where he resides is still – like many other countries – yet to catch up to the other nations leading in medical cannabis legislation; such as the U.S, the Netherlands, Israel and Uruguay.
Valdas could face upward of five years imprisonment for using CBD products, but his lust for life outweighed his fear of potential incarceration. His belief in CBD’s role in his recuperation and rehabilitation is resolute, confident that CBD was able to keep him calm and relaxed while he slowly pieced his physical and mental wellbeing back together. Now, he pleads for his country to be more open minded; wanting laws to be reformed so that, at the very least, the use of cannabis for medicinal purposes is made accessible to those, like himself, who need it most.
