Glen began his day just like any other, but this was to be a day that would impact the course of his life forever. Glen arrived at work standing on his own two feet, but when he left, he was a different man. During the space of a day, he became involved in a horrific workplace accident that left him traumatised, his mind was never the same again.
He remembers gingerly, “I was using a post hole digging bar on a piece of machinery to free up a pneumatic arm. This arm would go in and out of a paper roll, we would run. The arm got stuck so I used the bar to try and pry the arm out. The bar slipped off the arm and whacked me on the right top side of my head. I had to get 10 staples.”
The shock that ensued gradually eroded Glen’s mental health, until eventually, he began showing signs of developing depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) recalling that after his accident, “I would get dizzy from time to time. My mind wasn’t the same after that. My mind would always race, I would get scared for no reason and I wouldn’t know why. It felt as if I was in a different world. I was here but I wasn't. It’s weird to explain.”
But because he was offered no assistance or workplace support when re-commencing at his job, he felt that he was alone in dealing with the mental ramifications of his accident. He recalls, “I would feel weird and quiet and distance myself from my wife and kids.” This not only affected the relationships he had with his family but went to contribute even more to his worsening mental health.
The high levels of stress at work and as well as his deteriorating relationships with his family, he was eventually forced to forgo work for days at a time, in order to evade a mental breakdown; which he felt was just waiting on the periphery.
Realising quickly just how much his dwindling mental health was impacting his life, he decided to go to the doctors. He needed to find a way out of the fray, to a place where he could feel in control. His visit though effective, was the beginning of a very new and tumultuous part of his life.
His doctor diagnosed him with anxiety, which was a devastating blow. Acknowledging that he had developed a mental illness was both a relief and shock for him; he who had never thought that mental illness would affect him. However unnerving, it was nevertheless a great relief for him to have finally been given a diagnosis to the worrying places his mind would take him at times.
Following the doctor’s orders, Glen began on a regime of anti-anxiety pills, believing that they would provide him with the necessary balance he needed to support his family and get back to work. But this, he quickly realised, would not be the case.
“All they [pharmaceutical anxiolytics] did was make me feel slow and dumb. I felt like a robot on cruise control, I hated the feeling”. So, Glen did what many people have had to do before, explaining to Endoca, “I decided they were not good for me so I stopped taking them.”
But, even when he notified his doctor of how the pharmaceuticals were affecting him, he was just prescribed different ones, his doctor completely disregarding his personal needs. So he just stopped. He stopped listening to his doctor and discontinued the prescription pharmaceuticals that were numbing him to both his pains and his pleasures. But, he recognised that in order to maintain a healthy mind he had to endeavour to find something more sustainable to aid him back to health. This is when he began researching the benefits of CBD.
“I started reading on anxiety and read that CBD would be able to help with it. I read more into it and got interested.”
Lucky for Glen, he had friends around him who had used CBD before and who could give information about how to take CBD as well as provide him with feedback on their own experiences using it. And it didn’t take long before Glen started to feel the positive effects, but as he recalls it, “They had a terrible flavour and wouldn’t dissolve very well in my drinks.”
So he continued his research and happened upon Endoca through our Instagram page. Impressed by the importance placed on the quality of our CBD extracts, production methods, and product range, Glen felt he was in the right hands.
Finding his perfect CBD ‘sweet spot’, Glen uses 5-6 drops of the Endoca 3% Hemp CBD Oil, and recalls of his experiences, “Before I knew it my [anxiety] attacks drastically decreased. I could feel the attacks coming on but they wouldn't start.”
He now says, “Since using the drops I don’t get my attacks as often as I would… they [also] help a lot when I get headaches and want fast relief.”
When looking at Glen now it is easy to believe him to be a different man from just a few years ago. He believes that CBD has been the determining factor in his ability to persevere through what turned out to be one of the most trying times of his life, now being able to begin what he believes is a new lease on life.
Cannabis medicine has given Glen the determination and belief in himself that he lacked so emphatically after his workplace accident and has even spurred him into a new direction, explaining to us “I’m reading more and more on hemp and everything the plant can do. It truly is a super plant.”
After his incredible experiences, Glen believes himself to be a staunch advocate for the beneficial qualities of cannabis and hopes one day to be able to grow his own hemp, as he continues to learn more about the properties of this incredible plant and what it can do for the world.
