“Battling a panic disorder is no way to live.”
When 10 years ago Amena experienced a shocking incident, she didn’t realize just how much influence it would have on her quality of life and mental wellbeing.
Amena developed post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which, as the name suggests, is a condition that tends to emerge after experiencing a life-threatening situation. It is most commonly known amongst war veterans due to the trauma sustained during live combat, but can be developed after experiencing assault, natural disaster or trauma of any kind.
Symptoms of PTSD is what makes living with the condition so difficult and are also particularly hard to evade. Usually it means trying to avoid stimuli that may have something to do with the original trauma, but this is not as simple as it sounds and doesn’t always guarantee that symptoms won’t develop, regardless of what you do to avoid them.
According to the U.S Department of Veteran Affairs, symptoms of PTSD may include:
- Reliving traumatic experiences. You may have bad memories or nightmares. You even may feel like you're going through the event again. This is called a flashback.
- Avoiding situations that remind you of the event. You may try to avoid situations or people that trigger memories of the traumatic event. You may even avoid talking or thinking about the event.
- Having more negative beliefs and feelings. The way you think about yourself and others may change because of the trauma. You may feel guilt or shame. Or, you may not be interested in activities you used to enjoy. You may feel that the world is dangerous and you can't trust anyone. You might be numb, or find it hard to feel happy.
- Feeling keyed up (also called hyperarousal). You may be jittery, or always alert and on the lookout for danger. Or, you may have trouble concentrating or sleeping. You might suddenly get angry or irritable, startle easily, or act in unhealthy ways (like smoking, using drugs and alcohol, or driving recklessly.
This alone can be a horror to experience and can mean having to change aspects of your life in order to carry on with your day-to-day routine. But, due to her PTSD, Amena’s mental health began to deteriorate at a dramatic rate, with the day-to-day potential of experiencing symptoms of PTSD leading her to have anxiety and panic disorder.
This drastic change of mental wellbeing crippled her quality of life and inevitably lead to her developing depression as well.
As the weight of her mounting burdens began to pile higher and higher, Amena found herself struggling to evade stressful and anxiety producing situations. She explains, “Everyday situations, even random various moments, are difficult to deal with. Leaving the house is hard. Going to the grocery store is a challenge. I have plenty of social anxiety – I can't even drive anymore.”
So, as Amena’s symptoms became more and more prominent, she made the decision to contact her doctor.
Immediately, she was prescribed a host of pharmaceutical drugs; Effexor, Prozac and Zoloft for depression, stress and anxiety, as well as Xanax, Zoloft and Clonazepam for social anxiety and panic disorder. But instead of helping her to maintain a healthy mind, they only managed to numb her to the underlying problems that still pervaded her daily life.

“Going on prescription pharmaceutical drugs only mask the problems. They are poison and cause numerous side effects eventually making my symptoms worse [and] also super hard to wean off!”
Throughout this time, Amena noted some of the tremendous side effects that plagued her. The drugs produced the much recognized ‘zombie-like’ state, numbing her to much of what was going on within her and in the world outside. It also meant that she experienced little to no sleep as she had developed incredible nightmares, a merciless thirst and intense dry mouth.
Amena also found that when switching from one drug to another, the change produced sickening heart palpitations, uncontrollable shaking and night sweats. Some of the pharmaceutical drugs even caused her anxiety to worsen.
For 10 years, Amena dealt with drug after drug, zombie-like emotions, weight gain, and enduring side effects which inevitably impacted the relationships she shared with friends and family quite negatively.
Like many others, Amena also recognized that on top of all this, she had developed a real dependency on pharmaceutical drugs. She knew that one day soon, she would have to go down the arduous route of weaning herself off them.
Amena had heard of the conversation surrounding CBD, and after some research and promising anecdotes, she decided to give it a go; she loved the idea that CBD is a natural product that doesn’t mask the issues, but works to balance them out, without the horrifying side effects she had previously found so anguishing.
Within two weeks of ordering the Endoca 3% Raw Hemp Oil drops, Amena noticed a change. She explains that after just 3 drops under the tongue, she began to feel normal and even said she was able to do things that were just too difficult to manage before.
“This oil has made me less anxious, less shaky and more relaxed... I don’t want to say euphoric but something to that feeling of happy. It is just so natural and right for my body.”
By gradually moving up to the Endoca 15% Hemp Oil, Amena has been able to find her ‘sweet spot’ and has found CBD to be an incredible help in slowly weaning herself off of the myriad of pharmaceutical drugs she was once so reliant on.
“I have not only gotten off half the dosage of most of my pills... CBD oil has helped me to take my life back again!”
Like many stories we hear from all over the world, Amena feels CBD has given her a quality of life that she believed was once far out of reach. And, with her incredible experiences to back her, she would recommend CBD over any big pharma drug on the market.
“Even if you aren't diagnosed with anything - it it very beneficial for your mind body and soul.”
