The first medical marijuana is now grown and sold legally by Dr. Jason Strotheide who holds a license in Missouri.
The first legal medical marijuana grown from seed to produce CBD oil for epilepsy is available on prescription in Missouri
Fox 2 News reports that the first batch of CBD oil was produced from seedlings planted in June in a Pacific, MO greenhouse and harvested in October. The medical marijuana law of Missouri allows hemp to be produced only for CBD oil in the treatment of intractable epilepsy.
The family of Ayden Markum is one of 56 families in Missouri granted a hemp extract registration card. These cards are made fake proof by using hi-tech security measures. As Dr. Strotheide explains: when the card is rubbed, the ink disappears, and later appears. This is how it is validated.

CBD oil from hemp – why the security?
The high security against fraudulent cards is quite fascinating as there is no danger of CBD oil being used for any ulterior motive, such as getting “high”. Hemp contains minuscule amounts of THC, the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis. The level of precaution taken is quite absurd.
Taking into consideration that the state requires that each batch must be sent to a lab in Illinois by Dr. Strotheide to be analyzed, there’s no way the system could be bucked. This analysis is to make sure it’s not a strain that contains high levels of THC, and can get someone high.
Prescription medicine almost killed Ayden
Ayden Markum has been on at least 10 traditional prescription drugs with no success. His mom Ashley says one medication took away his ability to eat. “It atrophied his muscles so much that he couldn’t swallow, so he would choke and then aspirate.” She explained.
Previously the family had to travel to a state where medical marijuana was legal to obtain the CBD oil to try it for Ayden’s seizures. It helped tremendously. “We go from having seizures all day long to maybe just a handful. We actually got his first laugh after trying the CBD oil” said Ashley Markum.
One day with Ayden will change anyone’s perception
Ayden’s mom says if she could invite anyone opposed to medical marijuana to spend some time with Ayden, just for a day, it would change his or her mind. To watch him have seizure upon seizure, back to back, and see the pain he endures from the muscle spasms because of the seizures – that would change anyone’s mind.
The family drove to Chesterfield from Springfield, Missouri to get some of the first legal CBD oil sold in the state. They are extremely happy to know they can now legally obtain Ayden’s medicine from Dr. Jason Strotheide.
CBD oil for epilepsy
GW Pharmaceuticals is in the process of developing Sativex, a cannabis based medication for severe seizure and epilepsy. The active ingredient is a CBD extract for epilepsy, but fails to offer patients the whole plant effect. As we know, Dr. Mechoulam described the whole plant extract as having the “entourage effect” that boosts efficacy. Cannabis has many, many cannabinoids and together they are somehow more powerful than when synthesized and used on their own. It is believed all these compounds together have a much stronger healing effect.
