When it comes to sex in the 21st century, there is certainly no lack of products that people are willing to try in order to improve life in the bedroom, but could CBD for sex be the latest to catch the public’s imagination?
From toys to lingerie and a whole lot in between, the sex industry has something for everyone. While these kinds of enhancements in a couple's love life can prove to be beneficial, many of the problems they experience go a lot deeper than throwing a bit of lace into the mix.
Many of our issues in the bedroom come down to mental or physical health problems, which can lead to a less than fulfilling sex life impeding your confidence and performance between the sheets.
However, research conducted in recent years has suggested that the increasingly popular cannabis compound CBD could be offered as an alternative for those who are experiencing sexual performance issues; mentally as well as physically.
Let’s take a look at how CBD could help improve your sex life.
How can CBD Help your Sex Life?
As part of a healthy lifestyle, sex can be the perfect icing on the cake. There can be nothing better than a rumble between the sheets with your partner. However, for some, the thought of this type of intimate moment can stir feelings of fear and anxiety.
When we find ourselves in the midst of a romantic tryst, it may just so happen that our nerves can get the better of us. Whether it has to do with performance or body insecurities, anxiety can be a major disruption to any carnal activities.
However, when it comes to CBD, there seems to be a growing amount of evidence that suggests that CBD for sex could be just the thing you’ve been yearning for.
Even though CBD may seem like the new kid on the block when it comes to wellness, this impressive natural cannabis component has been seen to have strong potential in being used as a treatment for anxiety disorders. That is to say, it may help improve other stress and anxiety problems specific to the bedroom too.
You may be surprised to know that CBD may be able to help with sex in the following ways!
A selection of our products
In the case of Erectile dysfunction (ED); a common condition that affects at least 18 million American men over the age of 20 - and can be caused by an underlying anxiety and stress issue - CBD is thought to be a great catalyst for improving the lives of those with anxiety and stress related problems. What if CBD could soothe your sexual stress, so you could get down to business?
Another known cause of problems in the bedroom may even come down to medications that can cause sexual dysfunction. Antidepressants, in particular, have been known to reduce both sexual drive and performance. But, with CBD showing a great deal of potential as a treatment for anxiety, depression and general stress, it could well offer an alternative as a treatment for those struggling with stress and anxiety related problems in the bedroom. More on this later.
CBD for Inflammation
Yes, CBD could have fantastic anti-inflammatory properties, and - you guessed it - inflammation is cited as a major libido inhibitor. Inflammation is an immune response which causes white blood cells to attack an area of your body in order to clear the area of any invaders.
However, anyone with chronic inflammation usually has a heap of pain to go along with it - and on top of that, they may also experience obstructions in blood flow. As you can imagine, this type of issue could affect men in particular by potentially preventing them from obtaining, or sustaining, an erection.
With CBD showing remarkable abilities in reducing inflammation, it could potentially be helpful as a treatment for pain and inflammation, which could be what's causing erectile dysfunction (ED).
CBD for Pain Relief
Perhaps Fifty Shades of Grey piqued your curiosity in the world of pleasure and pain, but for others, dealing with pain is not such a turn on. Many people site pain as a major dampener on libido and sexual drive, creating frustration and low self-esteem as a result.
Where some would automatically turn to pharmaceuticals for instantaneous relief, this may not be your best option. Medications have been known to interfere with sexual performance in the bedroom, however, when it comes to CBD for sex, research has revealed a tremendous potential as a treatment for a number of pain disorders including chronic or long-term pain.
One report analyzed CBD use for general chronic pain and found that there is substantial evidence to support the theory that cannabis (and cannabinoids including CBD) are effective treatments for chronic pain in adults; meaning you don't need to worry about your pain interfering with your erotic enjoyment. Phew!
CBD for Women
While it would seem that CBD can aid sexual performance by reducing anxiety for both men and women, there also appears to be some benefits specific to each.
According to WebMD, 43% of women experience some form of sexual dysfunction in their lifetime, ranging from painful vaginal muscle spasms to the inability to have orgasms at all.
But, there is now evidence to suggest that CBD can help with muscle relaxation, pain relief, and inflammation. CBD for sex could potentially provide hope for women that suffer from medical conditions that make sex difficult or less pleasurable.
Unfortunately, conventional treatments involving pharmaceutical medications for conditions affecting the reproductive system do come with a number of side effects, making CBD for sex a far more natural alternative.
CBD for Sex
We really couldn’t write this and not mention the increasing amount of cannabis-based sex products bursting into sex shops and online stores nationwide. The arrival of cannabis in the mainstream sex world has been slowly expanding for years, however now it has pride of place among other natural libido enhancers. Cannabis, it would seem, is set to become the next big thing in lifting libido.
Sex therapist Lawrence Siegel effectively sums up why, "Our body's natural endocannabinoid system is key in regulating things like pleasure, pain, relaxation, and homeostasis. When it is activated by the cannabinoids in cannabis, it can leave users feeling relaxed with increased pleasure and decreased pain".
And there are plenty of surveys to back-up this theory. One small survey made up of 133 women concluded that 68% said cannabis made sex more pleasurable. Another survey conducted on 50,000 people made up of both men and women and concluded that those who used cannabis had 22-34% more sex than those who didn’t - naturally inferring that cannabis plays a role in invoking libido and suggesting that CBD for sex may just be a tried and true method for you.
Of course, like most things related to CBD, much more research is required in this specific area before we can draw any firm conclusions that CBD for sex is a match. However, it is certainly clear that CBD - having been declared safe by the World Health Organisation in 2017 - could well provide an alternative for issues regarding sexual performance.
