CBD for Pain and SleepCannabis has been used for centuries as an ancient remedy, however, further research into the plant has found there to be potential benefits in the use of its cannabinoid compound CBD, for pain and sleep. CBD is a cannabinoid found naturally within the cannabis plant, studies have revealed that CBD could affect mood, pain perception and cognitive functions. CBD is most commonly known for its calming, anti-anxiety, and antipsychotic effects and the compound is widely used for its therapeutic benefits. Statoshi’s Sleep and Pain StoryDysautonomia Disease can essentially be defined with any malfunction of the autonomic nervous system. This disease can cause many kinds of symptoms, such as headache due to tenseness and stiffness of body, stomach aches due to too much stomach acid produced by the body, dizziness due to anemia, insomnia, amnesia, your eyes may have trouble focussing on objects far away, and sometimes it even resulted in a total loss of control of my emotions. All part of your internal organs can be negatively affected, due to their relation with our autonomic nervous system. My doctor, who worked at The Japanese Association of Medicine, said there was no specific medication currently available to treat or cure my Dysautonomia. He could only give me medication to help my pain and insomnia. He said the only way to allow my body to recover from the illness was to relax and take some serious time off, which meant I had to rely on my body’s self-healing powers to deal with my condition. It took me a long time of searching to find a way to calm down my sympathetic nervous system. I tried many kinds of medicines and treatments, even yoga and spiritual healing. Along my long health journey, I came across some information regarding the medicinal properties of cannabis and found that it has powerful effects when it comes to bodily relaxation, and so I decided to continue my investigation to see if it was something that could help me and my condition. At the time, I was suffering from insomnia and pain, as well as feeling tense and stiff in my body all the time. Now, I feel much less pain and I sleep well, ever since I started taking CBD oil. Most of my suffering was pain due to the tenseness and stiffness in my body, which is where I feel the CBD helps the most. It allows the release of this stiffness and tension, helping to ease the pain and relax my body, as well as strengthening our self-healing power and therefore helping to ease all the other symptoms I have experienced. More than anything else, I feel a sort of ‘release’ since using the oil and whenever I take it, I feel so much more relaxed in my body. CBD oil has truly improved the quality of my life. I have been taking CBD oil for a year and a half now and still take it almost every day before going to bed. I have used both the 3% and the 15% RAW CBD oil for my condition. I used to take 5-6 drop of the RAW 3% CBD oil at the beginning, but over time my body got used to the 3% oil, so now I take 2-3 drops of the RAW 15% of CBD oil when my body feels stiff and easily tense due to the Dysautonomia Disease. My family and friends know that I’m taking CBD oil for my Dysautonomia, and though they were surprised at first, they now understand it better because I explained what it was and how it was helping me. CBD oil is relatively new to the market in Japan and a lot of people can be skeptical of it, as many still see it as a cannabis product and therefore a drug. However, like with the rest of the world, the stigma is slowly changing.Excerpt is taken from Statoshi’s community story
Wendy's Pain StoryWendy Primeau, one of our community members at the Endoca Foundation, got in touch with us recently and told us she wanted to tell her story about her experience with CBD extracts for chronic pain. Wendy has a lot of pain, as she has been suffering from a deteriorating spine, Lupus, Fibromyalgia, and Rheumatoid Arthritis. She had lived with a lot of pain for many years and has been on pharmaceutical pain medication such as Vicodin, Roxicet and Perkicet in her lifetime, and Hydrocodone for almost 5 years. Wendy tells us it was awful and she didn't get much relief, only negative side effects while she built up a tolerance, meaning instead of getting better, she ended up just needing more and more pills.“On Hydrocodone, the side effects are terrible. You get constipation, bad mood swings and, I know this is a bit personal, but it affects your sex life too and it makes you get angry over little things, but I only noticed when I got off the medication. These pain medications affect your mood and people don’t even realize it.”Her husband bought her our 1500mg CBD oil this summer. She took it straight away, then took a little more shortly after and by hour 6, she was in tears."My husband was worried and asked me said what was wrong. I just kept crying because I was so happy, I couldn't believe it, but I was pain-free for the first time in YEARS.”Excerpt is taken from Wendy community story
Robbie's Pain StoryFor the past 9 years, I have suffered from chronic Central Pain Syndrome (CPS), a neurological disorder caused by trauma to the central nervous system, which is a result of several injuries that I sustained in my youth that did not heal correctly. I'm now 32 years young. When I was younger, I was a competitive gymnast and my spine was constantly under physical stress due to improper body mechanics and impact exercise, and I was also in several motor vehicle accidents, two of which involved my car being totaled. In my late teens and early twenties, I started to experience a significant amount of pain. The pain, panic/anxiety attacks, and depression became too severe and the only thing my physicians offered to help me at the time was physical therapy and medications. They began to prescribe NSAIDs (Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), antidepressants and muscle relaxants as I tried physical therapy to improve my situation. Physical therapy was not helpful because of the amount of pain I had to endure and the medications were only mildly effective. The NSAIDS caused stomach pain and vomiting, and muscle relaxants made me too drowsy to take during the day, so I tried to push through the pain. I also suffer from panic disorder. Antidepressants exacerbate my anxiety and cause me to have suicidal thoughts, so I was prescribed benzodiazepines (Xanax, Ativan, Valium, etc.) to treat the panic attacks and relax my muscles. I have never struggled with any addiction problems, however, benzodiazepines cause physical dependence and long-term use also causes depression. After doing extensive research on my own, I started taking CBD September 2016 and shortly after began to experience an improvement in pain levels and reduction of anxiety.Once I found a good quality CBD oil and found the dosage range that works for me, I began to see good results. In November 2016, I began to taper off of Valium.I was taking the maximum dose of 40 mg daily. I reduced my dosage 2 mg every 2 weeks and during this time, I was also able to taper off Baclofen, an antispasticity drug, in less than a week.I also stopped taking Tizanidine (an antispasmodic). Not only has my pain been managed better than I can remember, I also experienced very few symptoms from discontinuing these heavily dependence-producing drugs. To be clear, I have never been "addicted," but these medications have horrible side effects, they are strongly dependence-producing and they're notoriously difficult to stop taking, particularly for someone like me experiencing severe pain. With the help of CBD, the transition off was remarkably easy. I thank God for CBD as it has allowed me to discontinue my meds and manage my pain much better than in the past, and now I'm also in partial remission from the Panic Disorder that I've suffered from most of my life. I still have chronic pain, but it is much less intense than it was prior to taking CBD.CBD has been beneficial in almost every aspect of my health and I continue to see improvements daily with no side effects! My mood is generally much more positive and I no longer feel depressed and hopeless. To anyone in a similar situation to me: you have nothing to lose and a life to gain by trying CBD.Excerpt is taken from Robbie Giles community story
