Shelley M. White, remembers losing consciousness one morning in 2011 after she developed 30 symptoms in two weeks. Doctors told her she has Lyme disease. Lyme disease hardly ever travels alone and comes with various co-infections. Skunk magazine published a short article on how she discovered cannabis, and how it saved her life.
Intelligent bacteriaLyme disease bacterium, Borrelia burgdorferi, is “intelligent,” says Shelly, and it is resistant to antibiotics. More and more drug resistant bacteria are evolving and adapting to elude antibiotics.
Shelley describes what happened to her as “becoming utterly powerless,” and she says she had to give up all she had, even her feelings. This was a mistake because she needed her feelings to guide her. She had numerous seizures a day, some days as many as ten an hour.

No answer, until you find your own answerShelley took unfathomable amounts of antibiotics and pharmaceutical medicines once she handed herself over to conventional treatment. After enduring for a year, she reached a very dark place. She finally realized she had to find her own answers.
At this point, she became fascinated by medicines that came from plants and started on Stephen Buhner’s Lyme disease protocols. For the first time she started feeling a little progress, but after yet another year, her seizures were still very severe. She was still bed ridden. Since nothing else has worked, she decided to try smoking cannabis to see if it would help with the seizures.
Cannabis for Lyme disease stopped seizures and moreAfter Shelley started using cannabis for Lyme disease, she went ten days without any seizures, then 20 days, then a month and more. One night, she smoked an unheard-of amount of cannabis, and to her amazement felt much clearer than she has felt in years the following morning. This is how her healing journey with cannabis started.
Shelley became symptom-free. The cannabis plant has done for her in only a few months what heaps of medication with horrendous side effects couldn’t do for her in years. She thought she had found a cure, and stopped using cannabis on a regular basis. This caused her to have a relapse.
Daily cannabis oil for healthShelley says she now knows that as long as she takes her daily dose of cannabis oil she can live a healthy life without the severe flare-ups of Lyme disease symptoms. She says she is not calling it a cure because no two Lyme disease cases are similar. But she can say in all honesty that cannabis improved her quality of life dramatically and it has done the same for many others she has spoken to.
Plants provide us with all we needShelley M. White wrote a book about her journey, called “Cannabis Oil for Lyme and Related Conditions” in which she describes the exceptional ability of cannabis to inhibit drug-resistant bacteria successfully and even destroy the spread of bacteria with secondary metabolites. She says the antibiotic properties of plants are widely underestimated, especially that of cannabis.
Humans create synthetic drugs in labs, while plants have the natural ability and properties, and are right under our noses. Shelley says our survival as a species depends on realizing that we will have to stop living off nature, and start living with nature.
Cannabis anti-bacterial propertiesWhile cannabis is likely to be behind Shelley’s seizure suppression, scientists agree that cannabis has potential to treat drug-resistant bacterial infections. As always, we hear the “research is ongoing.”
Shelley’s book about Cannabis for Lyme disease will surely help to boost awareness regarding the amazing properties of cannabis. Let’s hope that scientists will be among those to sit up and take note.
