Americans are Still Facing Weight Challenges
While you may already be aware that eating well and maintaining a balanced diet is a vital part of living a healthy and happy life. It is still apparent that despite increased awareness, and the popularity of weight-loss methods, more Americans than ever before are now considered to be either overweight or clinically obese.
When we follow a balanced diet and maintain a healthy weight, we experience increased energy levels, greater levels of focus and concentration and optimal immune performance, while our body gets the nutrients we need for growth and repair.
In turn, we also help to reduce our risk of diabetes, strokes, high blood pressure, cancer and heart disease as well as aiding the prevention of diet-related illnesses.
However, despite the obvious benefits of a healthy, balanced and nutritious diet, America’s problem with food does not appear to be going away with the most recent statistics on the nation's weight problem producing some eye-opening figures.
According to a first-of-its-kind analysis of trend data from 188 countries conducted in 2013, it was estimated that over 160 million Americans are either obese or overweight. Almost 75% of American men and more than 60% of women fell into one of these two categories.
While those figures are truly shocking, it is also deeply worrying that nearly 30% of boys and girls under the age of 20 are also considered to be either obese or overweight.
Of course, the obvious solutions of doing more exercise and cutting out the junk food can never be repeated often enough, there is now an increased demand for new and additional weight loss methods that go beyond existing conventional methods.
With more and more people struggling with their weight and relationship with food, a variety of special diet programs and weight loss supplements now exist within an increasingly crowded market-place.

CBD for Weight Loss?
In recent years, we have seen a huge increase in the research conducted into CBD and the potential effect it has on our body. One of the more surprising conclusions reached by these studies showed that CBD may actually help with weight loss.
While most people assume that because CBD is derived from cannabis it causes increased appetite, this is not actually the case, as it is the THC within cannabis that actually causes the so-called “munchie” effect.
However, CBD is said to have the opposite effect and can actually help to suppress appetite.
CBD and Metabolism
Research conducted in South Korea in 2016 showed that CBD does have a direct effect on our body’s metabolism and as a consequence, could help with weight loss.
One of the main reasons for this effect of CBD oil is that when consumed, it helps to trigger a procedure known as “fat browning”.
A study published in the scientific journal Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry revealed that while following intense monitoring of CBD and its effects on immature fat cells, otherwise known as preadipocytes, they discovered that CBD has not just one, but three ways of effecting "fat browning".
They discovered that CBD helps to transform the white adipose tissues stored inside the human body into brown ones. Brown adipose tissues help us burn more energy compared to the white tissues which are responsible for preserving energy.
Furthermore, the research also revealed that CBD stimulates the proteins and genes that play an important role in the breakdown of fat as well as boosting the volume and activity level of mitochondria, amplifying the body’s ability to burn calories.
They also found that CBD reduces the expression of proteins involved in creating new fat cells within the body. It is believed that white fat can increase the risk of diabetes and heart disease (amongst others) while brown fat is said to potentially help with weight loss by burning energy.
Following the conclusion of the study, the researchers agreed that CBD does have the ability to induce “fat browning” - ie, turning white fat into brown fat. Also, the consumption of CBD oil could have the ability to reduce appetite which could make it a highly effective, natural, weight loss solution.
CBD, Anxiety and Weight Loss
I have previously discussed the potential benefits of using CBD for anxiety and one of the side-effects of anxiety, is in fact, weight gain.
Anxiety often causes over-eating as food helps to trigger the production of endorphins which, in turn, can help improve a person’s short-term state of mind.
Many people who suffer from depression or anxiety often eat more as a result of their condition and because they are doing this as a coping skill to deal with these issues, they are often unaware that they are even gaining weight.
For many though, this gaining of weight can also increase their anxiety. Anxiety is also known to cause the production of cortisol, a stress hormone that can produce more fat around your stomach. A vicious circle indeed.
Unfortunately, the symptoms of these mental illnesses also include sleeping more frequently and for longer, as well as decreased levels of activity. Physical inactivity also results in your body requiring less energy and the slowing down of your metabolism, resulting in fewer burnt calories and therefore increased weight gain.
If CBD oil can help with anxiety, and with your metabolism, it is apparent that there is great scope for the potential use of CBD as a treatment for weight loss.
While further studies are necessary in this particular sphere of CBD usage, there is an increasing number of CBD users who have reported the benefits of using CBD as a weight-loss supplement.
Ultimately, there is not just one solution to the growing problem of weight gain in the US. In our increasingly fast-paced, demanding lives, there may not always seem like enough time to eat well, exercise and sleep 7 to 8 hours all in the same day, but truly, this has always been the best recipe for a healthy lifestyle.
While the addition of CBD oil to your diet could well prove the missing link in helping you to lose weight, there is obviously no substitute for a clean and healthy lifestyle.
There is, unfortunately, no one size fits all solution to the health challenges facing our country today, but if CBD could help in the fight against obesity, it would only add further weight to the belief that CBD truly is one of the most remarkable natural gifts afforded to our society in the 21st century.
