Steve Peek from the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, father of the eight-year old, Suli says cannabis oil is the only way his daughter can have some quality of life in her last days. He doesn’t have much hope on recovery for her, but says no one knows how long she has left to live. It could be days, or it could be years.
The Daily Mail reported on his heartbreaking effort to stop his terminally ill daughter from having up to a 100 seizures a day with cannabinoid oil for seizure, even though she is in hospital.
Cannabinoid oil for seizure
Suli’s parents started her on cannabinoid oil for seizure 18 months ago after the medication prescribed to her made her even sicker. They started using the oil to reduce the number of seizures their daughter had per day. On many days, she had more than a 100. The seizures are caused by the rare regressive neurological disorder she suffers from.
Suli’s dad says her quality of life increased greatly after they started giving her cannabinoid oil for the seizures and he doesn’t want to stop the treatment while she is in hospital.

Why should he need amnesty?
Steve is asking the court to grant him amnesty to use the cannabis oil in hospital. He firmly believes this could save his daughter’s life and return her to her bubbly eight-year old self. The cannabis oil has no side effects either says Mr. Peek. When your child is in palliative care, what choice do you have left? He asked.
The epilepsy medication Suli was on sent her to the resuscitation unit twice. Her dad says doctors should tell him what harm is he causing his daughter by giving her the cannabinoid oil if they want to refuse his appeal.
Petition launched in October
Mr. Peek launched a petition early in October to try and obtain amnesty. His movement has gained the support of 1,800 people some of whom are members of parliament. Steve Dickson, member from Buderim, gave his backing to the petition tabled to the Queensland Legislative Assembly.
Mr. Dickson was outraged, saying it was absolutely ridiculous that Mr. Peek has not yet been granted amnesty to help his daughter. He said this little girl can’t defend herself, and her dad is doing everything possible to make her suffer less. What parent wouldn’t do the same thing if they were in his position?
Cannabinoid oil for seizure
Cannabinoid oil for seizure is legal in so many places in the world. If everyone could just understand the fact that cannabinoid oil, CBD or cannabidiol can cause no harm, and has no psychoactive effect, so many children would benefit. Meanwhile, how many more must suffer?
In a few years from now, we will look back on cases like these and comment on the ignorance of the times, but unfortunately it will probably be too late for Steve and Suli Peek by then.
